Director of Legal & Compliance

Role summary

The Director of Legal & Compliance will own the legal and compliance architecture that supports TeamZoro's platform, partnerships, operations, procurement, and internal governance in Sri Lanka. This role is responsible for building practical, business-aware legal structures that reduce risk without slowing decision-making or execution.

This is a senior leadership role for a commercially grounded legal professional who can operate across contracts, policy, regulatory interpretation, governance, and internal controls. The successful candidate will partner closely with operations, finance, product, and leadership teams to keep the company scalable, compliant, and defensible as it grows.

Responsibilities

• Lead legal and compliance strategy across commercial contracting, governance, policy, risk, and operational controls.
• Design and maintain legal frameworks that support software, procurement, partnership, customer operations, and internal business activities.
• Oversee contract standards, negotiation support, approval processes, and documentation controls.
• Advise leadership on regulatory exposure, business risk, governance priorities, and policy decisions.
• Build internal compliance routines covering KYC-related workflows, data handling, partner standards, and control documentation where applicable.
• Support procurement and enterprise engagements with legal review, negotiation guidance, and contract governance.
• Work with operations and product teams to translate legal requirements into practical workflows and internal controls.
• Manage or develop the legal and compliance team, external counsel relationships, and escalation protocols.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent legal qualification from a recognized institution.
• 8+ years of legal, compliance, or regulatory experience, including leadership responsibility.
• Strong experience with commercial contracts, business risk review, and internal governance design.
• Demonstrated ability to advise operating teams in technology-enabled, platform, or multi-stakeholder business environments.
• Strong judgment, drafting ability, and stakeholder management capability.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Preferred experience

• Attorney-at-law qualification in Sri Lanka or equivalent professional standing.
• Experience supporting digital platforms, SaaS businesses, procurement programs, or regulated operating environments.
• Exposure to privacy, data governance, trust and safety, or financial control frameworks.
• Experience managing external counsel, internal policy buildouts, or compliance training programs.
